Philip Johnson’s Glass House on Sunday 11/4

This is a visit to New Canaan, Connecticut to tour the Glass House, also known as Johnson’s house. It is a historic house museum, built in 1948-49 and designed by Philip Johnson.

Philip Johnson was a modern architect. His works include the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden at MoMa. He was the founding Director of the Dept. of Architecture at MoMa.

When we arrive at 10:15am, we will check in with the Glass House Visiting Center for your scheduled time. We will walk around Nyack and return to the visiting center at 12:00pm. We will take the shuttle to the Glass House.

Please note that the tour for the gallery & house is limited to only 13 persons. You must make your reservations as soon as possible.
The admission fee is $60.00 and it must be bought on line. This is their website to RSVP

The following are the buildings/exhibits that we will see 1) the Glass House 2) the Painting Gallery 3) Sculpture Gallery 4) Da Monsta & outdoor sculptures.

Please schedule your tour for 12:30pm ($60.00), if this sells out schedule your tour for 1.15pm. There is a 2:00pm but only do this tour as a last resort.

Transportation: Metro North Grand Central: 9:02am with a transfer at Stamford Station at 9:58am arrive New Canaan at 10:15am

Fare: Off-Peak $11.50/$7.50 Senior

Meeting Place: Grand Central Station by the Information Desk/clock
Meeting time: 8:45am

Return: Either 4:28pm arriving at Grand Central at 5:50 or 5:28pm arriving at Grand Central at 6:60pm – depending on what we may want to do in New Canaan.
Fare: Off-Peak $11.50/$7.50 Senior

Organizer fee: Normally, I charge $15.00 for out of town trips, but due to the cost of the Glass House, it will be up to you.

P.S. Please, Please make your arrangements ASAP since there are only 13 slots per tour at the Glass House.

(If you are a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, you still need to make your reservation on line. They will reimburse $15.000 on the day of the tour.)
